Macon-Bibb recognizes work of emergency management professionals
The proclamation highlights how emergency managers prepare for disasters and remain on alert around the clock.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Macon-Bibb County issued a proclamation Tuesday designating this month as Emergency Management Awareness Month, shining a light on the work emergency management professionals do year-round.
While emergency management services are most visible during active crises, the work extends well beyond disaster response. Personnel help communities prepare for emergency events and remain on alert around the clock, long before any emergency begins.
Bibb County Emergency Management Director Spencer Hawkins said the month offers a national platform to educate the public on the role emergency managers play in public safety.
“It’s our opportunity as emergency management professionals to get the word out about who we are and what we do in our communities,” he said. “And this is a national effort , so every emergency manager from Georgia to Tennessee to California, this month they’re talking about emergency management and the importance we play in the public safety community.”
Residents are encouraged to learn more about their local emergency management resources and how those services can support them.
