Piedmont Macon marks 5 years, prepares Houston County expansion
The health system is marking five years in Macon as it prepares to open a freestanding emergency department near Houston Lake Road.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Piedmont Macon is marking five years as part of Piedmont Healthcare.
Piedmont Macon CEO Stephen Daugherty says serving Macon residents for the past five years has been rewarding. He says the system provides families with emergency care, primary care, specialized heart and cancer treatment, senior support programs and community health outreach.
“Before Piedmont we were just two hospitals,” Daugherty said. “So, one of the first things we wanted to address was access to care, and a part of that was recruiting new physicians. So, we now have five primary care offices. We encourage everybody to have a primary care doctor.”
Daugherty says Piedmont Macon has expanded its reach and provides care to patients across Macon and surrounding communities.
“So, we’re not just looking at the place where the hospital is, we’re trying to build a network of services across, the region where we’re at,” Daugherty said.
Daugherty says Piedmont will soon expand its reach into Houston County with a new emergency department.
“We have a piece of property near Houston Lake Road and I-96,” Daugherty said. “The next announcement I hope will be showing what that free standing emergency department will look like and how that will serve the citizens of Houston County and others that need emergency care.”
