More than 150 localities passed bans last month alone. Opponents of the projects have cited concerns including high energy consumption and environmental impacts.
Experts warn the growing opposition could hamper U.S. efforts to maintain its lead over competitors such as China as countries race to advance artificial intelligence technology.
Meanwhile, GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen is considering withdrawing his $56 billion bid to take over eBay after the proposal received a lukewarm response on Wall Street.
A combination of the two companies could give GameStop and eBay a larger share of the trading card and collectibles markets. However, investors have expressed concerns about the deal, particularly its price tag.
The FBI is also warning about cybercriminals hacking into the social media accounts of adults and children to steal intimate images and videos.
According to the FBI alert, criminals often use social engineering tactics to gain access to accounts. Victims can then be extorted or have stolen content published online.
The FBI recommends using unique passwords, storing them in a password manager, enabling multi-factor authentication and being cautious when receiving unsolicited messages.
And with summer winding down, many Americans are hoping to squeeze in another vacation.
A survey of 2,000 Americans conducted by Talker Research on behalf of CheapCaribbean Vacations found 61% had not taken a vacation so far this summer. Nearly one in four said they don’t feel they’ve made the most of the season, while 59% said they haven’t had enough vacation time.
