Warner Robins apartment fire spreads to attic, families displaced

Crews were called to the apartment complex at 135 Iginco Drive around 8:07 p.m.

HOUSTON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Fifteen people received assistance from the American Red Cross after a fire at a Warner Robins apartment complex Sunday night, according to the Red Cross.

The Warner Robins Fire Department responded to Village North Apartments at 135 Ignico Drive around 8:07 p.m. Aug. 10.

The first engine arrived within four minutes and reported heavy smoke coming from the rear of the building. After assessing the structure, firefighters determined the fire had spread into the attic.

Firefighters contained the fire, which was reported extinguished around 8:45 p.m.

Seven of the eight apartments had occupants, although fire officials said most residents were not home at the time of the fire.

The American Red Cross said its Central Midwest Chapter Disaster Action Team responded to assist six families, totaling 15 people. Volunteers provided comfort kits, direct assistance and recovery planning to help with needs caused by the fire.

Fire crews remained at the scene until about 10:33 p.m.

Investigators are working to determine the cause and origin of the fire. No additional information about the cause has been released.
