New Macon support group creates safe space for people affected by HIV
Reach to Impact Nonprofit is launching “Reach to Impact Chat N Chill,” a free social support group focused on connection, encouragement and breaking the stigma surrounding HIV.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A new social support group in Macon is working to make sure people living with HIV and those affected by HIV know they are not alone.
Organizer Veronica Howard is a 31-year survivor of HIV and a peer advocate. She says the need for a support group goes beyond access to medication and medical care.
Howard says loneliness, stigma and shame can continue to affect people living with HIV for years.
The group will provide a safe space for people to connect, share their experiences and find support without judgment.
The soft opening is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. at HI Frequency, 3430 Napier Avenue in Macon.
People living with HIV and those who have been affected by HIV are welcome to attend.
