Georgia medical cannabis regulators tour Fine Fettle facility in Macon
State regulators toured Fine Fettle’s Macon facility as Georgia’s medical cannabis program continues to expand following changes that took effect July 1.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Members of the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission toured Fine Fettle’s Macon facility Monday, getting a firsthand look at how medical cannabis is grown, processed and prepared for patients across Georgia.
Fine Fettle is one of the licensed medical cannabis facilities operating in the state.
Andrew Turnage, executive director of the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission, said the visit allowed commission staff to better understand the facilities and operations they regulate.
“The work that we do is absolutely focused on regulating the plants, regulating the process, regulating those products that are manufactured,” Turnage said.
Turnage said the commission also works to create an environment where patients can rely on medical cannabis products after they leave a facility and are distributed through dispensaries or independent pharmacies.
The tour comes as Georgia’s medical cannabis program adjusts to changes that took effect July 1.
Under the new law, licensed businesses can produce flower and vaporization products, giving patients additional ways to use medical cannabis.
Judson Hill, president of Fine Fettle, said the company worked for two and a half years to get the law passed.
“We worked for two and a half years to get this law passed, went into effect on July 1,, and the patients have been extremely pleased since then,” Hill said.
Hill said Fine Fettle has been able to provide flower and vape products since the law took effect.
He also said the company has seen an increase in the number of patients enrolled in Georgia’s medical cannabis program.
“We’ve also seen the patient base go up by about 10,000 patients in the last six weeks alone,” Hill said.
Hill said Fine Fettle’s Macon facility has the capacity to increase production as the program continues to grow.
The company also plans to open a new dispensary in Macon this fall.
