Macon man sentenced to 20 years on drug, firearm charges

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A convicted felon was sentenced to 20 years after pleading guilty to drug and firearm charges stemming from a 2021 search of his Macon home, according to the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.

Oscar Abram pleaded guilty August 4 to possession with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was sentenced to 20 years, with 10 years to be served in prison, and was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine.

The charges stem from an October 20, 2021, search of Abram’s home on Reese Street by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals Service.

According to the district attorney’s office, the search followed several months of controlled drug buys after investigators developed information that Abram was illegally selling pills.

Authorities said deputies detained Abram at the home and found 56 grams of hydrocodone, digital scales, drug packaging materials and thousands of dollars in cash.

Investigators also recovered two revolvers. The district attorney’s office said Abram was prohibited from possessing firearms because of a previous felony conviction.

“This defendant was selling pills out of his home while illegally armed as a convicted felon, a dangerous combination that puts our entire community at risk,” said Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney Anita Howard. “Thanks to months of patient investigative work by our Drug Unit and the U.S. Marshals Service, we were able to hold him fully accountable. This sentence ensures significant time in custody and years of supervision afterward, and it reflects our Office’s continued commitment to getting illegal guns and drugs off our streets.”

Abram was taken into custody after the hearing, according to the district attorney’s office.
