Son charged with murder in death of 80-year-old mother in Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of his 80-year-old mother, whose death was ruled a homicide, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said 40-year-old John Lyons O’Connor was taken into custody Friday morning after members of the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, assisted by the sheriff’s office SWAT Team, Special Investigations Unit and patrol deputies, executed a search warrant and arrest warrant at a residence on Woodland Drive.

O’Connor is charged with murder in the death of 80-year-old Mary Louise Montgomery O’Connor. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the two are mother and son.

Deputies initially responded to the residence after receiving a call at 11:08 a.m. on July 1.

According to the sheriff’s office, Mary O’Connor was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Luanne Stone.

The sheriff’s office said an autopsy performed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation determined her death was a homicide.

Investigators said the homicide was connected to injuries Mary O’Connor sustained during a domestic disturbance reported at the residence on June 18 at 11:03 p.m.

John O’Connor was transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, where he is being held without bond, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
