Baldwin County woman charged with identity theft, financial card fraud in Monroe County case

MONROE COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Baldwin County woman has been arrested on identity theft and financial card fraud charges after investigators say a victim’s debit card information was used to purchase two laptop computers, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators were assigned the case July 7 after a victim reported that an unknown person had gained access to his debit card information and used it to buy two laptops.

According to the sheriff’s office, investigators learned the laptops were scheduled to be delivered to an address on Roberts Road in Baldwin County.

Monroe County investigators coordinated with deputies from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office to conduct a search, which led to the identification of the person accused of using the victim’s debit card.

On July 8, investigators arrested Sherry Williams of Baldwin County. Williams is charged with identity theft and financial card fraud and is being held at the Monroe County Jail.

The investigation remains active, and additional arrests and charges are possible, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
