Interim Wilcox Sheriff Named, 4 Announce Bid for Sheriff
ABBEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Deputy Michael Ramirez has been named interim sheriff for Wilcox County. Probate Judge Betty Anderson made the decision Monday. Former Sheriff, Stacy Bloodsworth, was forced to resign last week after a federal indictment charged him with inmate abuse. Ramirez has worked for the sheriff’s office for more than 5 years.
Four Wilcox residents have also already announced their plans to run for sheriff in the special election. Larry Brown, Kelly Wilson, Sam McKinney, and Mike Martin have announced their bid for the top law enforcer of Wilcox. According to Probate Judge Anderson, she has heard rumors of other residents running as well.
Qualifying for the special election starts May 23rd at 9am and ends May 25th at 12pm. The election will take place July 31st. If there is no run-off the winner will be sworn in immediately.
