MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Macon Bibb County firefighters are giving back to the community in a big way, raising thousands of dollars for a local children’s hospital.

For the first time in seven years, firefighters created a health and fitness calendar to support the Navicent Health Foundation, benefiting Atrium Health’s Beverly Knight Olson Children’s Hospital.

On Friday morning, firefighters presented a check for 20 thousand dollars during a ceremony held inside the hospital lobby.

Foundation leaders say the effort stood out as a unique and creative way to give back.

“This is one of the most creative philanthropic opportunities that we’ve seen to date yet in our children’s hospital,” said Macey Terrell, President and CEO of the Navicent Health Foundation. “I know the community at large was so excited to get their hands on these calendars. I think they’re sold out, but we are so grateful.”

The calendar featured 36 firefighters who were selected after competing for a spot. Those chosen prepared by increasing their workouts and focusing on healthier lifestyles ahead of photoshoots.

Photos were taken at various locations across Middle Georgia, showcasing both the firefighters and the community they serve.

The calendars quickly sold out, with orders coming in from across the country and even internationally, helping raise funds that will now go toward supporting children’s healthcare in the region.
