Macon Habitat for Humanity hands keys to new homeowners

The organization has built more than 100 affordable starter homes for Macon residents since its founding in 1986.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Five new homeowners received their keys Thursday through Macon Habitat for Humanity, marking another milestone in the organization’s 40 years of operation.

Since its founding in 1986, Macon Habitat for Humanity has built more than 100 affordable starter homes for residents.

Each home is made possible through community effort and funding, giving new homeowners not only an affordable place to live, but a network of neighbors around them.

Ivey Hall, Executive Director of Macon Habitat for Humanity, said the program addresses a need that goes well beyond just providing shelter.

“Families that are looking for affordable homeownership opportunities in a time when home is such an important place, we know it contributes to family stability and long-term wealth building for our families. It also really helps the transformation and stability of neighborhoods,” Hall said.

Community members showed up to celebrate the occasion, bringing housewarming gifts and supplies and expressing excitement about welcoming their new neighbors.
