MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — During Macon-Bibb County’s Planning & Zoning Commission meeting, members approved the development phase for a new Costco Wholesale store.

The 158,000-square-foot warehouse will be built in north Macon at the intersection of Bass Road and new Forsyth Road. There will also be a 32 pump gas station on the property.

Macon-Bibb Commissioner Valerie Wynn says this will make a huge impact on the local economy.

“It will be something that we have needed. We don’t have a warehouse type business here, on that end of town. People say we have everything, but we don’t have one of those. So, I’m excited about that I think it will be a plus to this community. We’ve wanted something like that for a long time, plus it puts us in the realm of bigger cities to me,” said Wynn.

Traffic consultant with Atlantic Traffic & Design Engineers, John Harter, says they’ve done a traffic study on the area to ensure there will be no major impacts.

We looked at 8 different intersections and focused on the peak hour traffic that Costco generates. So, it’s a detailed study we look at weekday, and Saturday peak hours, then project the Costco volumes, and we have a lot of other research from other Costco sites,” said Harter.

The new Costco is expected to open in the summer of 2027.
