Texas Woman Killed After Tesla Crashes Into Home

(CNN)- A 76-year-old woman was killed after a Tesla crashed into a home Friday night, according to investigators.

Authorities say the crash happened around 8 p.m. when a 44-year-old man driving a Tesla Model 3 slammed into the front of a house.

Family members inside the home said they heard what sounded like an explosion before realizing a vehicle had crashed into the residence.

Jennifer Barbour said she immediately rushed to check on her husband and three children before discovering the vehicle inside the home.

Barbour’s mother, 76-year-old Martha Avila, was trapped after the impact pushed household appliances and debris into her.

“She was pinned against the wall because he pushed her fridge against her,” Barbour said.

Avila was airlifted to a hospital but was pronounced dead before arriving.

The Tesla driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Investigators said the driver told authorities he was using an automated driving assistance system at the time of the crash. Officials said there were no signs of impairment.

The crash remains under investigation.
