Indictment: Wilcox County Sheriff Acted ‘Maliciously and Sadistically’

ABBEVILLE, Georgia(41NBC/WMGT) Wilcox County Sheriff Stacy Bloodsworth remains in custody as 41NBC learns more details about his alleged abuse of 3 inmates and other federal charges.

The sheriff faces a maximum of 100 years in prison for tampering with a witness.

The 16 page indictment repeatedly calls Sheriff Bloodsworth’s actions malicious and sadistic. It details the sheriff, his son, Austin Bloodsworth, former Wilcox Jailer Casey Owens, and former inmate Willie James Carothers use of intimidation to cover-up their actions back in July of 2009.

Bloodsworth is accused of violating inmates constitutional rights. He faces 3 counts of Deprivation of Rights Under Color Law. 1 count to Conspire to Tamper with a Witness. 5 counts of Tampering with a Witness, and 1 count of Making False Statements to the FBI.

The four allegedly prevented the abused inmates from reaching out to federal law enforcement officers about the attacks.

The indictment also states the group threatened one of the inmates to drop a civil lawsuit against them back in 2010.

The men also forced one of the inmates to write a false report about the abuse.

According to US Attorney for the Middle Georgia District, Michael Moore, his office will present evidence in federal court to tomorrow to try and keep Bloodsworth from posting bond.

Moore also expects arraignment to take place tomorrow.
