Multiple arrests made in Perry mail theft and check fraud investigation

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Multiple people have been arrested and several others are wanted in connection with a mail theft and check fraud scheme that affected up to 20 victims in Perry and Houston County, according to the Perry Police Department.

The investigation began in September 2025 after the Perry Police Department received multiple reports from residents whose checks were stolen after being placed in the United States Postal Service mail system through the Perry Post Office.

Police said investigators identified a pattern among the incidents and launched an extensive investigation using a variety of investigative techniques and resources. Through the investigation, detectives identified multiple suspects believed to be involved in a scheme involving stolen mail, check theft and check fraud.

As a result of the investigation, authorities secured warrants for several individuals. Multiple suspects have since been taken into custody, while additional suspects remain outstanding and are actively being sought by law enforcement.

According to police, approximately 15 to 20 victims throughout Perry and Houston County were impacted by the scheme. Investigators said the case remains active and additional charges or arrests may be forthcoming as evidence continues to be reviewed and additional leads are pursued.

Those arrested include:

  • 31-year-old Exivaes Doral Robinson of Leesburg — Financial identity fraud; theft by deception.
  • 30-year-old Kevon Lemond Holmes of Leesburg — Financial identity fraud; theft by deception.
  • 25-year-old Kevontae Demtrius Downs of Sylvester — Financial identity fraud.
  • 32-year-old Diamond Sandrell Byrd of Albany — Financial identity fraud; theft by deception.

Police said the following individuals have outstanding warrants:

  • 34-year-old Cory Antonio Thomas of Albany — Financial identity fraud; theft by taking.
  • 30-year-old Reshonda Renee Taylor of Albany — Financial identity fraud; theft by taking.
  • 27-year-old Lorenzo Oliver James of Albany — Financial identity fraud; theft by deception.
  • 34-year-old Gregory D. Jackson of Albany — Financial identity fraud; theft by deception.
  • 26-year-old Na’Quavus Shannoris Taylor of Leesburg — Financial identity fraud.

The Perry Police Department credited the Leesburg Police Department, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Houston County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Postal Service for assisting with the investigation.

The department encouraged residents to use caution when mailing checks or other sensitive financial documents and to consider alternative payment methods when possible.
