BS Report: Braves On Top At The 1/3 Mark
Well, for some strange reason, the brains had Memorial Day off. It is kind of weird, because that’s usually a day that most teams in baseball are playing, and it’s usually a day where everyone kind of takes a look at where baseball is after the first third of the season. But the Braves did not play. They’ll be back in action tonight coming up at 645 when they take on the Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Spencer Strider will pitch for Atlanta. Ranger Suarez will pitch for the Boston team. The Red Sox are struggling. Atlanta will face three left handed pitchers in this series against the Red Sox. The Braves hit the one third mark of the season, are a 36 and 18 team. That means they have won two out of every three games. That means they are on pace for 108 wins, which is pretty good for the first third of the season.
Much better. I think everybody thought they would be. The Braves are putting up very good numbers, of course, both at the plate and on the mound. They continue to be first in the big leagues in team era. You can’t beat that right there. 3.04 is their number. They are also first in slugging percentage hits and tied for first in batting average at the plate.
So the offense of course has been very good. They are second in the sport in runs scored and runs scored per game, with 282 and scoring 5.2 runs per game, so all this adds up to a very good start, of course, where the Braves are eight and a half games on top of the Washington Nationals in the National League East.
By the way, the Mets have fallen to 14 games out in last place in the division, which is incredible in its own right. The Braves, though, are on pace for some very good numbers. Can I keep this pace up? Well, who knows. Not sure about that of me. Obviously, winning two out of every three games is what old Bobby Cox used to love to do just win the series.
Which is exactly what the Braves have done a lot of, except for two times so far this season. But they are on pace for unbelievable numbers. I mean, Drake Baldwin on pace for 39 home runs. He’ll be back soon from his oblique injury. Matt Olson on pace for 42 home runs. Michael Harris the second on pace for 33 home runs.
So unbelievable numbers there. And of course Chris Sale is going to be in the Cy Young voting if he keeps up his pace as he’s on his way to a 21 win season. So a lot of baseball left two thirds of the season 108 games left. But so far, so good for the Atlanta Braves as they continue to dominate the National League Eastern Division.
Quick basketball note game five between San Antonio and Oklahoma City coming up tonight right here on 41 NBC. The winner of course, will have the advantage at three two in the series. And of course, where I know it’ll be the next in the Eastern Conference for the NBA finals, which will start next week.
