UPDATE: Houston County inmate dies after medical emergency

According to the GBI, the man had been held on traffic charges connected to an arrest by the Centerville Police Department and a failure to appear warrant out of Bibb County.

UPDATE: The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says Shaqwan Warren was in the process of being released from the Houston County Detention Center when he began experiencing medical issues.

According to the GBI, Warren had been held on traffic charges connected to an arrest by the Centerville Police Department and a failure to appear warrant out of Bibb County.

Investigators say Warren became unresponsive after arriving at a hospital on May 5. Medical staff stabilized him before transferring him to another hospital, where he died May 6. The investigation remains active.

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death of a Houston County inmate after a reported medical emergency, according to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office said 33-year-old Shaqwan Devonta Warren of Macon was taken from the detention center to the emergency room at Emory – Perry around 5:02 p.m. Tuesday.

Authorities said Warren was later transferred to Emory – Warner Robins for further evaluation and treatment.

Warren was pronounced dead at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday by medical staff at Emory – Warner Robins.

Investigation requested

Sheriff Matt Moulton requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to conduct an investigation into the death.

Officials said Warren had been incarcerated at the detention center since April 24.

Authorities said Warren’s body was taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.

The investigation remains ongoing.
