Macon-Bibb celebrates 14 years as age-friendly community
Community leaders say the effort focuses on accessibility, engagement and quality of life for residents of all ages.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Macon-Bibb County is marking 14 years as the first community in the nation to be designated age-friendly by AARP and the World Health Organization.
The 14th annual Age-Friendly Community Celebration was held at the Macon Mall Wednesday, featuring community vendors, resources and activities for people of all ages.
Karen Middleton, co-chair of the Macon-Bibb Age Friendly Council, said the designation encompasses a broad range of community needs and priorities.
“Sidewalks to traffic, transportation, housing, civic engagement, social engagement, this event is for multi-generational engagement,” she said.
Organizers say the event highlights Macon-Bibb’s continued efforts to build a more connected, accessible and supportive community.
