MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- A new housing project is moving forward in Macon, with a groundbreaking held for single-family homes at Desota Drive and Moreland Avenue.

Carlton’s Place hosted the ceremony as part of the development.

Macon-Bibb County Commissioner Brendalyn Bailey said city leaders are working to address the rising cost of housing.

According to Bailey, increasing affordable housing is one of the key goals of Macon Mayor Lester Miller.

Donna Middlebrooks, an associate realtor, said the project is intended to add new housing inventory in the area.

“And we wanted to bring some new inventory for those that work and play in this area. It’s good that they are able to sustain in the area that they are in. This is our first project in Macon, but we are looking to grow and expand. The first ten, of many,” Middlebrooks said.

Middlebrooks said each home will be two stories tall. She said construction is expected to be completed in about 18 months.
