(CNN)- A powerful tornado has caused significant damage in Mineral Wells as a widespread severe weather outbreak continues across the central and southern United States.
Local officials say parts of the town—located about 80 miles west of Dallas—were flattened Tuesday when the storm tore through the area, injuring several people. At least two victims were hospitalized.
“Both county judges are working on declaring the area a disaster,” said Police Chief Tim Denison.
The tornado is part of a multi-day storm system that has battered regions across the Midwest and South. In Springfield, residents faced another threat as hailstones as large as baseballs pummeled the area—damaging vehicles and knocking down power poles.
Storm chasers captured dramatic footage of the hail smashing windshields as they attempted to escape the storm. Meanwhile, damage assessments are underway in Clinton County, where a tornado struck Monday—impacting towns including Germantown.Officials say homes were damaged, trees and power lines were toppled, and several roads remain blocked.
At the same time, extreme weather threats continue in the South. In Everglades National Park, a wildfire has grown to more than 5,000 acres, fueled by dry conditions and ongoing heat.
Authorities say crews are continuing to battle the blaze as the region faces ongoing wildfire risks.
