MILLEDGVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Baldwin County is set to benefit from federal funding aimed at strengthening disaster preparedness, as part of a broader effort across the Southeast.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced more than $41.5 million in funding for projects in Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina designed to improve long-term resilience.

In Georgia, $1.4 million has been approved to support the installation of 12 generators in Baldwin and Muscogee counties.

The funding is part of FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, which provides resources to states and local governments for projects that prevent or reduce damage from future disasters.

FEMA said the program is intended to help communities strengthen infrastructure and improve response capabilities ahead of emergencies.

The Southeast funding is part of a larger $137 million investment supporting more than 50 projects nationwide.

FEMA will provide the funding to the states, which will then distribute it to local governments for approved projects.
