MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Bibb County sheriff’s deputy has been arrested and fired after investigators determined she struck a compliant suspect during an arrest earlier this month, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Meshaun Gibson, who was assigned to the Patrol Division at the time of the incident, was charged with simple battery following an internal investigation.

The charge stems from an April 3, 2026, incident at the Baymont Hotel in Macon, where deputies responded to reports of trouble that were later determined to be a domestic disturbance. Investigators said a suspect, identified as Charles Anthony Williams, had taken a vehicle following a physical altercation and fled the scene before being apprehended nearby.

During Williams’ arrest, authorities said Gibson struck the man in the face while effecting the arrest. An internal review later determined the man was compliant at the time he was struck.

Previous reporting by 41NBC News also identified a video circulating on social media that appeared to show a deputy slapping a handcuffed suspect, with the deputy heard saying, “my hand slipped.” At the time, the sheriff’s office said the deputy involved was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Officials said violations were discovered during the internal investigation, which led to Gibson’s termination Thursday afternoon by Chief Deputy Chris Patterson.

As a result of the charges, Gibson turned herself in to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center on Thursday night. She was later released on bond.

Williams was previously charged with second-degree cruelty to children, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, theft by taking, battery and kidnapping.
