DODGE COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Dodge County Fire Department has joined efforts to contain the Brantley Highway 82 wildfire in south Georgia, which continues to threaten local communities. Early Thursday morning, the department dispatched two fire trucks and four firefighters to assist with battling the ongoing blaze.

Fire Chief Malcom Tyson said the crew is prepared to remain on-site for up to 96 hours as they work alongside other teams. As of the latest update, the wildfire has scorched approximately 4,438 acres and is only 15 percent contained.

The local Farmer’s Market has stepped up to help by coordinating a donation drive for first responders. On Saturday, April 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the market will serve as a secondary drop-off location for water, snacks and electrolyte drinks. To encourage donations, each item contributed will earn participants raffle tickets for a basket of market goods, with the winner drawn that afternoon.
