Charges Dropped in Northeast HS Rape Case

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Friday the Bibb County District Attorney dismissed charges for seven students accused of rape.  Now the alleged victim is the one who faces charges.  Macon Police and the Bibb County District Attorney’s Office held a news conference to explain why the Northeast High School students accused of sexual assault are released and in the clear.

Investigators tell 41NBC they found inconsistencies and that’s what led them to believe the 16 year old girl provided false information about the alleged rape.  Officials won’t comment on what those inconsistencies entail.

Investigators questioned the girl for several hours Friday and that led to her confession.

“We were able to today talk with the victim and the victim came in and with some emissions made by the victim we were able to determine that he allegations were false,” said Maj. Charles Stone, Macon Police Department.

“There was a sexual encounter that occurred at Northeast, but the way it happened was not consistent with what she told law enforcement,” explained Greg Winters, Bibb County District Attorney.
