Loaves and Fishes to host pickleball fundraiser

The cost is $20 per player, and proceeds benefit the ministry.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Loaves and Fishes Ministry of Macon is hosting a pickleball fundraiser to raise money for the organization.

The “Take A Bite Out of Hunger” pickleball tournament will feature events throughout Middle Georgia in April. The cost is $20 per player, and proceeds benefit the ministry.

The tournament schedule includes:

  • April 16: Tattnall Pickleball Center
  • April 18: Tattnall Pickleball Center
  • April 19: First Presbyterian Day School
  • April 20: John Drew Smith Tennis Center
  • April 25: Rhythm and Rally

Loaves and Fishes staff member Janet Wright said the ministry relies on donations from the community.

Wright said the ministry uses donations to help individuals and families experiencing homelessness or hardship.

Loaves and Fishes serves the community through the following services:

  • meals
  • household groceries assistance
  • birth certificates and IDs
  • pharmacy cost assistance
  • case management
  • weekly church services
  • showers
  • laundry
  • 24/7 access to facility potty ports
  • connections to vital community resources

The ministry’s goals for 2026-27 are to expand the birth certificate and pharmacy programs by 30% and provide monthly support to 300 more households and individuals in the community.

Wright said the organization is seeking funding to increase its refrigeration capacity by 20%. She added that this will allow the organization to double the amount of fresh and healthy food it receives, stores and delivers throughout the year.

The ministry also provided a breakdown of services delivered in 2025:

  • Meals served: 21,699
  • Household groceries: 3,467
  • Birth certificates and IDs: 786
  • Prescription/dental assistance: 167
  • Showers: 609
  • Laundry: 168
  • Prayer breakfast and Bible classes: 2,866
  • Volunteer hours: 3,510
