Emergency Management Agency Talks About severe Weather Awareness Week

MACON,Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Floods, tornadoes and even an earthquake, you name it, EMA’s have to be ready for any crisis. In order for EMA’s to conduct a quick response to a disaster, technology like a virtual emergency operation center can be very useful.  The EMA center is also able to track the path of hurricanes, using a hurricane tracker and if the weather gets really bad they have two way radios to communicate with the weather service. Bibb County’s E-M-A Director Donald Druitt says Macon has seen its share of tornadoes as well.

“The Big storm that this center went through is in 2008 and was the Mothers Day and of course in 2010 we had some tornadoes that came across Bibb County said Druitt.

When the weather is calm throughout the state, on an annual basis EMA’s try to have citizen’s emergency response training and public information sessions.

The Emergency Management Agency is having a home show next weekend at the Macon Centreplex to educate the public in the area of disaster preparedness.
