Houston County schools offering free summer meals for children, seeking sites

Children in Houston County will receive free meals this summer through a school nutrition program open to kids 18 and under.

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Families and organizations in Houston County will have access to free meals for children this summer through a school nutrition program.

The Houston County School Nutrition Program will offer its annual summer feeding program from May 26 through July 24, providing meals at no cost to children 18 and under.

Organizations can apply to serve meals

School officials are also seeking community partners to help serve meals during the program.

Organizations that host summer activities for children may qualify to participate and receive meals at no charge for their programs.

Examples include Vacation Bible Schools, sports teams, scout groups, recreation programs and tutoring services.

Interested organizations must apply and be approved by May 1.

Applications are available online through the district’s website.

Officials said families can expect more information about meal locations and access later in May.
