MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Families across Middle Georgia are invited to celebrate the planet at Macon-Bibb County’s 16th annual Earth Day event, featuring free educational activities, live entertainment and hands-on experiences for children.

The free event is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Amerson River Park, located at 2551 Pierce Drive North.

Organizers say this year’s event will offer family-friendly activities and vendors, all provided at no cost through Macon-Bibb County and the Green Team.

New additions this year include Tai Chi mini classes taught by Dr. Tony Gryffin and Jeff Hobaugh, giving attendees the chance to learn the basics ahead of World Tai Chi Day on April 25.

Children can also enjoy a visit from Barker Farms’ farm animals, a free official Earth Day T-shirt, Kids Zone activities and a bike giveaway for four children.

Returning favorites include nature walks led by Edward the Arborist and the Museum of Arts and Sciences’ Birds of Prey presentation, where Raptor Manager Pete Griffin will introduce native birds found in the area.

The event will also feature music from the Dean Brown Band, known as DubShak, throughout the day.

Attendees are encouraged to bring plastic bottles and aluminum cans for recycling at the park.

The annual Earth Day Awards will also be presented to honor groups and individuals who help keep Macon-Bibb green and clean.
