Man arrested, Bibb deputy placed on leave after Macon hotel incident

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man was arrested and a deputy is on administrative leave following an incident in Macon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a news release, the incident happened April 3 at the Baymont Hotel.
The sheriff’s office said deputies responded to the Baymont Hotel in reference to “unknown trouble.”
When deputies arrived, the victim told them the suspect took her vehicle and fled the scene after a physical altercation.
The investigation revealed the incident was a domestic disturbance.
Deputies were able to apprehend the suspect nearby, and he was taken into custody. The suspect was identified as Charles Anthony Williams.
During Williams’ arrest, an incident occurred involving a deputy that led to the deputy being placed on administrative leave pending disciplinary action.
41NBC News asked the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office about a video on social media. The video appears to show one of the arresting deputies slapping Williams, who was handcuffed at the time. The deputy could be heard saying, “my hand slipped”.
The sheriff’s office said an investigation has been initiated by Internal Affairs investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office of Professional Standards following the incident involving the deputy.
The deputy was immediately placed on administrative leave April 3, and the investigation remains ongoing. The sheriff’s office said the name of the deputy is not being released at this time.
Williams was charged with second-degree cruelty to children, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, theft by taking, battery and kidnapping.
