MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon Mayhem are heading back to the postseason, ending a five-year playoff drought and bringing playoff hockey back to Middle Georgia.

The Mayhem secured the eighth seed after finishing the regular season with a 26-26-3-3 record in their second season under head coach Dave Pszenyczny.

As the postseason begins, players say the focus and intensity have already elevated.

“Definitely practice is going to be ramped up,” said team captain Alex Cohen. “The reps are a lot quicker, a lot more crisp, a lot less margin for error for sure and it’s just a mindset. We’re here to win one game at a time and see how far we can take us.”

The matchup also presents a unique challenge, as Macon did not face Peoria during the regular season.

Puck drop for game one is set for 7 p.m. Thursday in Macon. Game two, and a potential game three will be played in Peoria.
