Tennille man arrested after crash into church during pursuit

TENNILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Tennille man was arrested Saturday after a vehicle pursuit ended with a crash into a church, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a news release, a vehicle pursuit started in Tennille April 4.
The sheriff’s office states that a deputy attempted a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 68 and Highway 15. The vehicle initially pulled into the Dollar General parking lot but failed to stop and quickly re-entered Highway 15, traveling northbound.
The news release states that during the pursuit the driver lost control of the vehicle after going airborne over the railroad tracks on Highway 15.
The vehicle then traveled across the front lawn of Tennille Baptist Church before crashing into the building, causing significant damage.
Thirty-two-year-old Kentavian Washington of Tennille was identified as the driver.
Washington was taken into custody at the scene and is facing charges including DUI, driving on a suspended license and felony fleeing and attempting to elude, along with additional charges.
The Georgia State Patrol will be handling the crash investigation.
