Georgia drivers still feeling impact despite gas tax suspension, slight price drop
AAA says while the gas tax suspension is offering some relief, drivers should still be prepared for continued price fluctuations in the weeks ahead.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Georgia is $3.58, according to AAA. The price is down from last week but remains higher than last month and this time last year.
Drivers say they are still feeling the impact. Garyiel Rainey says since gas prices increased due to the Middle East war, it is now costing her about $20 more to fill up.
“Before gas prices rose it took me about thirty five to fill it up, on a good day. A full thirty five dollars,” Rainey said.
Rainey says even after Governor Brian Kemp suspended the state gas tax earlier this month, she has not noticed much relief.
“It’s no difference to me, it’s the same thing, more money. The gas going, I don’t know where the gas going but I’m putting fifty in there to fill it up, and it’s gone in like two days,” Rainey said.
A woman traveling from Savannah through Middle Georgia says she is seeing the same thing.
“To me I don’t feel like there’s been any difference at all. I filled up on yesterday and even though I had a little bit of gas in my car it still cost me almost forty dollars to fill up my tank,” she said.
She says higher prices are also changing her daily routine.
“It’s home, work, home, church, home,” she said.
AAA says while the gas tax suspension is offering some relief, drivers should still be prepared for continued price fluctuations in the weeks ahead.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “When Operation Epic Fury is complete, gas prices will plummet back to the multi year lows American drivers enjoyed before these short term disruptions. President Trump remains committed to fully unleashing American energy dominance, lowering costs, and putting more money back in the pockets of hardworking American families.”
