MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Patty Gibbs is serving as the 2026 Cherry Festival Chair, playing a key role in one of Middle Georgia’s most anticipated events.

Known as “The Pinkest Party on Earth,” the festival transforms the city each spring as more than 350,000 Yoshino cherry trees bloom.

A leader at the center of the festival

Gibbs, a longtime nonprofit leader and President and CEO of the Ronald McDonald House of Central Georgia, brings decades of experience in community service to the role. From pageants and ceremonies to major festival events, she has been involved in nearly every aspect of this year’s celebration.

“It’s been a great experience so far,” Gibbs said. “I was appointed to be the festival chair last summer, and I’ve done the Little Miss and Mr. pageant, the coronation of the Queen and her court, and the opening ceremony. We’ve got all kinds of things going on this week that I’ll be participating in.”

Events for all ages across the city

The Cherry Blossom Festival is known for its wide variety of events, offering something for all ages. From family-friendly activities to formal galas, the festival highlights the culture and community spirit of Macon.

“I think the wonderful part about the Cherry Blossom Festival itself is, there is something for everyone,” Gibbs said. “We kicked off last Friday, which was the first day of spring. The weather couldn’t have been any better, and there were things to do at the park, and then we had our gala that evening.”

As Festival Chair, Gibbs serves as an ambassador welcoming visitors, connecting with dignitaries, and supporting events organized by community members across the city.

“My main role in this position is really to be an ambassador for the Cherry Blossom Festival,” she said. “To meet and greet our dignitaries that are here, to talk with them, to welcome people at events. I make sure that I go to the other events that are part of Cherry Blossom that other community members are putting on.”

Planning already underway for next year

Even as this year’s festival continues, planning for the future is already underway.

“Right after the Cherry Blossom Festival, our next meeting will be focused on outcomes and reviewing what happened,” Gibbs said. “Then we’ll immediately get started in planning next year’s events.”

The International Cherry Blossom Festival runs for 10 days each March and continues to draw visitors from around the world, celebrating not just the beauty of the blossoms, but the people and community that make Macon special.
