Wilcox Sheriff Charged With Inmate Abuse

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Friday federal prosecutors announce an indictment accusing the Wilcox County Sheriff, his son and two others of violating the rights of an inmate.  The 14-count indictment lists charges against Wilcox County Sheriff Stacy Bloodsworth, his son Austin Bloodsworth, former Wilcox County jailer Casey Owens and former inmate Willie James Caruthers.  The indictment says they assaulted two inmates and all four men assaulted a third inmate inside the county jail in July 2009.  Apparently one inmate suffered a broken jaw and the other two had bruises and scratches. Prosecutors say the four tried to cover up the assaults.  It’s not clear whether the four are in custody or whether any of them have lawyers.
