BS Report: Hawks playing better basketball
Well. The Atlanta Hawks will be back in action on Wednesday night when they take on the Milwaukee Bucks up in Wisconsin. It’s their only road game in a four week stretch. They had a five game homestand. Then they’ll have this game on Wednesday night in Milwaukee and they’ll come back home for another five game homestand. So a little bit of an opportunity for the Hawks to take advantage of the home schedule, which they’ve not been great at home this year.
But they are playing better basketball. There’s no question about it. It’s a softer part of their schedule and that’s helped with a four game win streak. Obviously, with two games against Washington last week, one of the worst teams in the NBA, and then Portland, a team under 500 who did not have their best star on Sunday. But regardless, the Hawks are playing better basketball.
And it’s incredible that this team is at 31 and 31 at the 500 mark. Considering the fact that they’ve had so many different turnover players turning over and changes and trades and injuries, it’s been unbelievable. Bob Rathbun, the Telecaster for the Hawks, said on Sunday night. It’s like the fourth different roster that Quin Snyder, the head coach, has had to play with.
So it’s been a real challenge to have continuity in this lineup with people in and out with injuries and then all the trades. But we’re seeing something obviously, that we were very curious about going into last week, and that is Jonathan Kuminga. Hawks are three. You know, the games he’s played in so far and he’s been very good, averaging 21.3 points per game, 7.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists and showing a lot of what I think a lot of people thought, he had, in his talent, bag and his skill set with just a lot of athleticism, a lot of energy and, and really, he’s a good player. And the Hawks getting for basically nothing. To be honest with you I mean Kristaps Porzingis was really on the bench. He had only played 17 games for Atlanta. And I mean if you’re not playing you don’t really have any contribution to the team. So they gave Kristaps Porzingis. And by the way he’s only played one game for Golden State to the Warriors.
For Jonathan Kuminga who had been banished to the bench by Steve Kerr. Well they made a mistake because this kid’s really good. And we’re going to see more of commingle with Jaylen Johnson. Johnson only had eight points eight rebounds eight assists on Sunday night. One of his worst performances of the year unfortunately but still help the team win. And and we’re going to see more of that dynamic and see what they can do together. But there is no question that it’s a three game small sample size. But we have seen why a lot of people have said that Jonathan Kuminga has a chance to be a star player, and that could be extremely crucial for this team.
He’s only 23 years old. I mean, you see the youth on this team. I mean, Annika Calm, who’s the oldest player on the team. He’s only 24 as far as the core members. I mean, we have some veterans like C.J. McCollum, but it’s it’s real interesting dynamic going on here with Jonathan Kuminga. Hawks have a chance to continue on their winning ways here. And if they can, they could go for ninth in the Eastern Conference to maybe six and get out of the Play-In tournament, which would be a huge thing for them. So let’s continue to see how they do. Let’s continue to watch Kuminga with Jaylen Johnson, who will be playing in his hometown on Wednesday night in Milwaukee, and see if the Hawks can continue this winning streak.
