Man, teen killed in overnight house fire in Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Two people are dead after an overnight house fire in Macon, according to the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department.

The fire was reported at 1:50 a.m. February 26 at 5321 Valley Forge Road.

When crews arrived, they found heavy fire coming from the garage area of the home, the department said in a news release.

Firefighters were told two people might still be inside the residence. Crews began search and rescue operations as others worked to extinguish the blaze.

A 14-year-old and a 20-year-old were found inside the home.

Captain Kyle Murray said life-saving measures were started immediately. Both victims were taken to a local hospital, where they later died from their injuries.

Coroner Leon Jones identified the victims as 14-year-old Liam Woodruff and 20-year-old Waylen Sumner.

The victims will be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Laboratory for autopsies to determine the cause of death. The fire remains under investigation.
