Deputies serving eviction warrant heard shots

According to Bibb County Sheriff David Davis, deputies from the Civil Court Magistrate Judge’s Office, went to a home on Ridgeview Circle shortly after 10 a.m. to serve papers related to an eviction.

Davis said when deputies approached the house, they heard gunshots and retreated. They then called for backup from the Sheriff’s Office. He said no one came to the door.

The sheriff said deputies attempted to establish contact with someone inside the home for about an hour.

Davis said a SWAT team and negotiators responded to the scene and were later able to enter the house.

Inside, deputies found one person with a gunshot wound and two other people deceased with gunshot wounds. The sheriff said one of the three individuals was still alive and taken to Atrium Health.

The sheriff said investigators are working to piece together the details and notify relatives of the deceased individuals.

The sheriff said he believes a man shot his wife and child. He called the situation “tragic” and said, “tragic, tragic situation for someone to get to the point in their life that they take out their family and their pets.” He also asked the community to “pray for the family.”

The investigation is ongoing as deputies continue working to establish the facts of the case.
