Save-A-Pet Looks for Help Building Dream Shelter

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A local non-profit group in Monroe County is facing a race against the clock.

Save-A-Pet, Inc. has operated on borrowed land for 7 years, but now that property is up for sale, and that’s left the animal rescue group scrambling to come up with thousands to build their own shelter.

“I would want to start today, but we can’t afford it today,” says President of Save-A-Pet, Patricia Corley.

The group has been able to purchase 10 acres on Maynard Church Road in Forsyth, but in order to build a dream shelter the groups needs to raise more than $300,000.

We try and find great homes for our dogs, and we just need to get our shelter up and running,” says Corley.

The non-profit shelter does not kill animals unless they are aggressive. ” We don’t put a time limit on them when we take them and try to find them a home,” adds Corley.

According to Corley, a new shelter has been decades in the making and finally getting it done would be a dream come true.

“It would just be what we’ve been dreaming for since we started in November 1998. We’ve been saying we’ve got to get a home. We’ve got to have something that’s ours. It would be wonderful,” says Corley.

Save-A-Pet takes care of between 50 to 70 dogs every day.
