Lake Tobesofkee’s Need for Upgrades

MACON, Georgia (41 NBC/WMGT) — Bibb County commissioners recognize the need for a new administrative building at Lake Tobesofkee.

During Tuesday’s committee meeting, Director of Lake Tobesofkee Doug Furney, announced he
and his staff will be moving into a temporary trailer within the next couple of weeks.
The existing building is deteriorating and commissioners want to tear it down to make room for a potential welcome center and administrative office.

Furney says, “I’ve been out there for over 27 years and I realize the public wants to be close to the water, they want to be able to get into the water, use the swimming areas, use the picnic areas. The attraction at Lake Tobesofkee is the water.”

Commissioner Joe Allen also added, “We didn’t have it in the SPLOST funds but we had other monies for that side of the community and we will be using some funds out of there. We’re going to take care of Tobesofkee.”

Commissioners are currently looking at different possibilities of funding and hope to begin construction as soon as possible.
