UPDATE: CEO of Coliseum Health System Killed in Plane Crash

CEO of Coliseum Health System, Allen Golson, was killed this afternoon in a plane crash in Florida. 41NBC spoke with one of Allen Golson’s close associates, who says the loss is devastating for the hospitals.

Just last night, Golson attended a service award banquet for Coliseum Health System, and Mike Sherrod, CEO of Coliseum Northside Medical Center, recalls something Golson said the night before his unexpected death.

“Allen leaned over to us last night and said, ‘You know, this is what its all about’–and that’s the people,” Sherrod remembered.

Golson and his wife Carol, took off from the Middle Georgia Regional Airport this morning and crashed in Marion County, FL around 12:30.

Officials say there was no distress call sent from the plane , which crashed less than a mile from the runway where the pilot was supposed to land. Golson’s wife survived the crash and was taken to a hospital there, along with a bystander who tried to help.
