Adrian Consonery Jr.’s 2020 voting experience inspired his run for Georgia Secretary of State

Democratic candidate Adrian Consonery Jr. is running for Georgia Secretary of State, saying his campaign is rooted in expanding voter access and restoring confidence in the state’s election system.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Consonery says his interest in the office was sparked during the 2020 presidential election while he was a student at Grambling State University. He says his absentee ballot was challenged, an experience that he describes as frustrating and formative.

If elected, Consonery says he would focus on fair and transparent election practices, while also working to improve efficiency within the Secretary of State’s office. In addition to overseeing elections, the office is responsible for business filings, professional licensing, and securities regulation.

Consonery says he would work to modernize business and professional licensing services to make them more accessible and efficient, while maintaining oversight and accountability. He also supports reforms aimed at increasing transparency in Georgia’s securities market.

Outside of the campaign, Consonery has worked in voter advocacy and civic engagement, partnering with nonpartisan organizations across the country to promote voter education and participation. He is also the founder of Lyfeline Initiative Inc., a nonprofit focused on community development and vocational rehabilitation.

Georgia’s Secretary of State race comes as election administration remains a key issue for voters across the state, following heightened scrutiny of election processes in recent years.

The primary election for Georgia Secretary of State is scheduled for May 19, with the general election set for November 3. Voters are encouraged to check their registration status ahead of Election Day.
