BS Report: Ole Miss VS Georgia

So here we are on New Year’s Eve, and I hope everybody will have a safe and healthy New Year’s Eve tonight. But we are getting close to the game on Thursday from New Orleans with Georgia and Ole Miss, a rematch of what happened a couple of months ago. Of course, a lot’s changed for both teams in those couple of months.

First of all, with Ole Miss, they now have a new head coach. Is Lane Kiffin left to go to LSU P Golding now their head coach. They already have a win in the playoff with the win over Tulane. Another game that was a rematch for them as they had played and beaten Tulane earlier in the year. And now they’ll play Georgia, a team that beat them by eight points in Athens back in October.
Of course, Georgia’s different too, because really it was around that time of the year that we saw a change in that Georgia defense. And some even believe that in the second half of that game against Ole Miss, Georgia’s defense clicked a little bit. Now remember, Ole Miss had their way offensively with the dogs defense in the first half of that game as they scored on every possession, but then it slowed down a little bit. Then of course, things changed with the big fourth down stops against the Gators in Jacksonville, a better defensive performance against Mississippi State, a win over Texas, a very good performance over a very explosive Georgia Tech offense. And then of course, the SEC championship win over Alabama. So this defense for Georgia is different. They now have a pass rush.

They really didn’t have that earlier in the year. But they are having that now. One thing about that for the game on Thursday is that Gabe Harris, who has been part of that improved pass rush, is going to be out. So we’ll have to see Joseph Janai Ajayi step up in some others to really help out. One player to watch as a kid from Middle Georgia, Zayden Walker from Schley County, who is emerging by the snap.

Every time he’s out there, he seems to be getting better. And the Georgia coaches seem to be even more comfortable with him as well. This could be a game between two quarterbacks Trinidad Chambliss of Ole Miss, who has had a very good year. And then, of course, Gunner Stockton for Georgia. Now Gunner Sam has said, well he’s, you know, backed off a little bit and not played as well as he did there in the middle of the season, resorted back to what he was doing earlier in the year.
But look, I think this kid plays up to his competition. I think he’s going to do very well and it’s also going to be a matchup of receivers. Ole Miss has got a lot of very good receivers, but Georgia could get a couple of receivers back. Colby Young Junior, who was leading the dogs in receptions and yards until he got hurt mid-year, is expected to possibly be back.

There’s a possibility for that. And Ethan Barber, the tight end, the freshman tight end who was hurt in the first game. The season may also return as well. So it’s going to be a really interesting game to see what happens with these two. And look, I feel good about Georgia’s chances. I know I usually am scared about teams that you play for a second time. I usually feel better if Georgia’s lost to a team like they lost to Alabama in the first go round and then have a second game against them, I feel good against Georgia for Georgia going up against the Crimson Tide because of that, but I think that Georgia’s a different team. They’re better now defensively facing that Ole Miss offense.

They were back in October, so I think Georgia will win on Thursday night in New Orleans.
