Blockbuster Plans To Close Underperforming Stores In Georgia

Next time you want to rent a movie, Blockbuster may not be an option. The Blockbuster on Zebulon road will be closing next month. The Blockbuster on Hartley bridge road and the store on Russell parkway in Warner Robins will be closing as well. Dish Network, the company who owns Blockbuster, says Blockbuster continues to evaluate the performance of each store’s location individually and they say they will remain committed to maintaining only those stores that they believe will be able to operate profitably.

“It’s sad that the stores that are actually local businesses and that are earning money are being taken over by the DVD by mail and things like that, it has taken away the tradition of Friday night dinner and a movie. Renting something and going home”, said Sandy Bilert.

41 nbc spoke with some of the Blockbuster employees here in Middle Georgia and they say the Blockbuster on Zebulon Road and Hartley Bridge Road will be closing on March 18th. The Blockbuster in Warner Robins on Russell Parkway will be closing February 19th.
