Festive events fill Forsyth’s Downtown for the holiday season

The holiday season is in full swing in Forsyth, where the city has lined up a month of festive events, concerts and family-friendly activities across downtown and Monroe County.

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One of the biggest highlights is the Hometown Holidays Parade, hosted by the Forsyth-Monroe Chamber. The parade begins at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4, and will follow this year’s theme, “A Holiday Movie Celebration: Lights, Camera, Christmas!” Visitors can expect illuminated floats, music, dance groups and an appearance from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Another major community event is the Jingle-N-Mingle & Candy Cane Crawl on Saturday, Dec. 6. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. around the Courthouse Square and features Christmas vendors, food trucks, music, a Kid’s Zone and a visit from Santa Ken Kringle. The event is supported by Forsyth Main Street, local law enforcement agencies, Monroe County Schools and the Sheriff Office’s C.A.R.E. Cottage.

Also on Dec. 6, the Monroe County Fine Arts Center will host Let’s Hang On, a Frankie Valli tribute at 7:30 p.m. The show includes hit songs from the 1960s along with classic holiday tunes.

The holiday calendar continues with the Monroe County Historical Society’s Golden Jubilee Celebration Banquet on Dec. 8, followed by the Backlot Players’ performance of “Scrooge, the Stingiest Man in Town” Dec. 12–14 at the Rose Theater.

Residents can also enjoy the Christmas Tour of Homes on Dec. 13, a guided holiday tour of historic homes from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Throughout December, visitors are encouraged to stroll downtown to see the Christmas tree, shop local boutiques, enjoy live music and check out activities at local venues such as The Den and Fox City Brewing Company.

Forsyth will wrap up the season with a New Year’s Eve celebration and Forsythia Ball Drop on the Courthouse Square beginning at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31.
