(CNN)- Tom Cruise now has an honorary Oscar, receiving the prestigious recognition at this year’s Governors Awards. Filmmaker Alejandro Iñárritu presented him with the award, and Cruise opened his speech by thanking Iñárritu and praising the evening’s other honorees: Debbie Allen — the actress, dancer, choreographer, singer, director, and producer — production designer Wynn Thomas, known for his collaborations with Spike Lee, and Dolly Parton, who accepted the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award virtually.

Cruise reflected on his decades-long career, saying, “Making films is not what I do: it is who I am.”

A major new international drama is also premiering today. “Vanguard,” a limited series dramatizing the rise of influential Swedish media mogul Jan Stenbeck, debuts on the Viaplay streaming service. The series, described as a real-life blend of “Succession” and “The Wolf of Wall Street,” features both English and Swedish dialogue and follows Stenbeck’s transformation from heir to a declining steel-and-forestry empire into a modern media powerhouse.
