84-year-old man found dead after Macon house fire

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An 84-year-old man was found dead after an early morning house fire Sunday, according to the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department.

Fire crews were dispatched at 5:37 a.m. on November 16 to the 2000 block of Third Avenue for a reported house fire. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the front right corner of a single-story, single-family home.

Firefighters began search operations while advancing attack lines to suppress the fire. During the search, crews found the man dead inside the residence, the department said.

The fire was quickly brought under control, and no additional injuries were reported.

The Bibb County Coroner’s Office responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

According to the fire department, the incident is being investigated as an accidental fire that originated in a front bedroom.
