Atrium Health Navicent raises awareness about lung cancer, offers resources

Dr. Rogerio Lilenbaum encourages people to prioritize their health and talk with their primary care provider.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Atrium Health Navicent is raising awareness about lung cancer and sharing resources with the community.

Dr. Rogerio Lilenbaum encourages people to prioritize their health and talk with their primary care provider. He adds that if you have a history of smoking or are over the age of 50 to get screened.

“Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States and it has been for decades,” Lilenbaum said. “It’s not the most common cancer.”

Lilenbaum said lung cancer is responsible for more deaths annually than breast, prostate and colorectal cancers combined.

He said that lung cancer used to be detected later, but with new technology, it can now be found earlier.

“Lung cancer mortality has decreased significantly over the past decade,” Lilenbaum said.
