Explosion at Harvard Medical School under investigation as intentional act

Investigators are searching for two suspects after an explosion inside a Harvard Medical School building

(NBC)- Investigators are searching for two suspects after an explosion inside a Harvard Medical School building early Saturday morning was determined to be intentional.

The blast happened on the fourth floor of the Goldenson Building, which is currently under restoration. Crews responded after a fire alarm was triggered, and the Boston Fire Department’s Arson Unit later ruled the explosion was deliberate.

“It was hard for me to fall asleep last night after hearing that,” said one student who lives nearby. “My heart was racing — and then, like five minutes later, I heard another bang, a second one.”

According to Harvard Police, an officer spotted two people leaving the scene shortly after the explosion and attempted to stop them, but they escaped. Investigators have released surveillance images of the suspects in hopes the public can help identify them.

“That’s super crazy,” said another student. “When I heard it was Harvard Medical, I was even more shocked — what could be going on there?”

No additional explosive devices were found, and thankfully no one was injured.

Police ask anyone who recognizes the suspects to contact Harvard University Police at 617-495-1796. The investigation remains active.
