MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Today, the Bibb County School District celebrated the completion of the Harry B. Thompson Complex.

The project began with improvements to the adjacent football stadium. The facility now houses offices for the district’s Athletic and Safety and Risk Management offices, as well as an employee wellness center with a gym, and facilities for the campus police department.

The complex’s building is the former Appling Middle School. School board President Myrtice C. Johnson credited the East Macon Neighborhood Association for working with the district to preserve the building for future usage.

“They didn’t have any real preference for how the building was going to be used,” Johnson said. “They put their ideas together with the superintendent. But their main goal was to find a way to save the old Appling building, and we were able to do that.”

The project was funded through the Bibb County ESPLOST. Superintendent Dr. Dan Sims thanked and called on the community to continue supporting the district.
